Here are some other great learning activities and tips from Sylvan to encourage interaction, communication and fun among your family members:
- Select a book that the whole family can enjoy. You can set a time to read aloud together. If you have older children, you might have everyone read chapters separately and then get together for a treat and a talk about the book.
- Buy some alphabet magnets. Spell out a word of the day on the refrigerator or another magnetic surface. Challenge all family members to use the word in a sentence. Take turns picking the word of the day.
- When your child has an oral report to give, have him practice in front of family members. Ask questions and give him suggestions and positive feedback. If possible, videotape him so he can watch himself and refine his presentation.
- If your child has a younger sibling, have her read to him at bedtime. Not only will this give her reading practice, it will let her help you with an important chore, while allowing her the opportunity to bond with her sibling.
